TEAM FEDERAL OIL INSIDE TOP TEN IN ANDALUSIAN FREE PRACTICE
#SpanishGP Free Practice. Team Federal Oil Gresini Moto2 has enjoyed a positive first day of action in Southern Spain, as Fabio Di Giannantonio and Nicolò Bulega finished eighth and tenth, respectively, in the combined times of today’s two free practice sessions – with only a few milliseconds separating the two.
Fabio Di Giannantonio headed the Gresini Racing duo today. With both braking and setting issues behind, the Italian set his fastest lap of the day during FP1 and then turned his attention on his race pace in the afternoon – with some excellent indications coming from his Kalex machine #21.
Nicolò Bulega also did well as he found the right feeling under braking. He will need to work extra hard tomorrow given the long lap penalty he will have to undertake on Sunday during the race. The FP3 session – taking place from 10:55 local time – will be crucial to get direct access to Q2. As it stands, they both are in the right place to do so.
8th – FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO #21 (1’41.924)
“We’re really happy with this first day. We were competitive this morning already and this is an excellent sign: we immediately solved a few issues we were carrying from the previous racing, both under braking and with the general set-up of the bike. In the afternoon I lapped with used tyres in order to work on the final part of the race and we were still among the fastest, so very good indeed. Tomorrow morning we will do a simulation on half race distance and then try to play our cards right in qualifying.”
10th – NICOLÒ BULEGA #11 (1’42.002)
“We didn’t do too bad today and I must say that in general we made a great step forward compared to previous races. It’s a pity that I couldn’t make the most of my outing with the soft tyre as we could have been a bit higher up in the timesheets, but we have a margin to improve throughout the weekend if we continue working this way. Obviously the penalty will affect the race but we must concentrate on what we have to do without thinking about it too much: we need first of all to prove we are competitive.”
