WIND HALTS TEAM KÖMMERLING’S PROGRESSION ON FRIDAY
RODRIGO CURRENTLY IN Q2 DESPITE CRASH, ALCOBA IN CONTROL
This afternoon’s top ten at Montmeló for Team Kömmerling Gresini Moto3 was not enough to be in a safer position for a possible Q2 direct seed ahead of tomorrow’s #CatalanGP qualifying. The 11th quickest time (1’49.640) set by Gabriel Rodrigo in the morning kept the Argentine in the same position throughout the second session, but there will be a lot of work to do in FP3 to maintain the position. Rodrigo knows he can be very quick at this track, as last year his pole time was one full second faster than the time logged today.
Jeremy Alcoba set almost identical times in the two sessions as he made his world championship debut at this very track. The rider #52 knows the track like the back of his hand so it is only a matter of time before we see him near the top of the timesheets – maybe already tomorrow morning in the FP3 session – which gets underway at 9am local time (GMT +2). A possible Q2 direct seed is currently only a couple of tenths away, nothing that cannot be done in the final free practice of the weekend – wind and traffic permitting.
11th – GABRIEL RODRIGO #2 (1’49.640)
“It’s always a pleasure to return here. We were able to perform well both this morning and afternoon. I crashed out at turn one in the second session – without hurting myself – and we never looked for the quick lap. We instead focused solely on the race, also because the wind didn’t help. We will work on the time attack tomorrow.”
16th – JEREMY ALCOBA #52 (1’50.065)
“It was a positive day and a good feeling to be racing here and show our new helmet. Regarding the bike we started steadily as this morning it was like riding on ice. With new tyres I was feeling a lot better and the times were kind of ‘Q2-like’, while in FP2 we worked more for the race and the feeling was good. I believe Q2 is within reach, but it will be important to avoid traffic and make the most of ‘home court advantage.’
