#INDIANGP: DIGGIA BARELY MISSES OUT ON Q2, ALEX 13TH

It was a Friday of ups and downs for Team Gresini Racing MotoGP, with Fabio DI Giannantonio and Alex Marquez 11th and 13th respectively, in today’s Free Practice sessions. Both standard bearers will be forced to go through Q1 in this maiden appearance at the Buddh International Circuit, a circuit that both the #49 and #73 appreciated.

The battle was very close in terms of lap-times, with 16 riders within 930 milliseconds. Fabio Di Giannantonio was therefore only 0.074secs from a direct seed to Q2 at the end of a promising Friday. Alex Marquez had more of a difficult day, but he will still be among the potential candidates for a last-minute access to Qualifying 2: his time was around one tenth slower than his teammate’s.

11th – FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO #49 (1’45.406)

“I’m a bit disappointed because the potential was really high. I felt good on the bike from the first lap and I really like the track. I did a great last lap, but with the shoulder still not 100% fit I made a mistake at the last corner and missed a great opportunity. If our physical condition will be good, we’ll be competitive tomorrow.”

13th – ALEX MARQUEZ #73 (1’45.550)

“We didn’t reach our goal today, which was the direct access to Q2… the yellow flag during our last attempt did penalise us, but that’s what happens when you go for it in the final stages. We need to keep working; today we lost a bit of time trying some adjustments that turned out to be not as good as we’d hoped. We will carefully analyse today’s data and we’ll be ready for tomorrow. I like the track: it’s not too challenging, but it’s fun and we can do well.”
