BOTH GRESINI RACING MOTO2 RIDERS PROVISIONALLY IN Q2 AFTER DAY 1 AT ASSEN
Free Practice – #DutchGP Changeable weather has accompanied on-track proceedings today at the TT Circuit Assen, with a wet Free Practice one session followed by a dry afternoon one. Team Gresini Racing Moto2 finished the day with both riders in the top-14 (combined FP1-FP2 times); it will be Free Practice 3 to finally decide who can make it into Q2 from the main door.
Filip Salač felt good aboard his Kalex machine in every condition: he was seventh in the morning under the rain, while in the afternoon he rounded out the top ten with a 0.6secs gap from the top. The goal for tomorrow will be to achieve a similar result.
It was a good day also for Alessandro Zaccone, who for the first time managed to finish inside the Q2 group in dry conditions. The rider #61 was able to find a good base set up that allowed him to maintain a good pace both in FP1 and FP2. This bodes well for tomorrow, as the weather will likely continue to be unpredictable. The goal for FP3 will be to improve in sector one in order to stay in the top-14 and make it directly into Q2.
10th – FILIP SALAČ #12 (1’37.978)
“I felt good in the wet this morning and then we also managed to have fun in the dry. We did our best lap-time in the first outing, then we had a little issue with the soft tyre we chose for the first time attack. In any case we did a fantastic job: we need to continue in this direction also tomorrow.”
14th – ALESSANDRO ZACCONE #61 (1’38.252)
“I’m happy: it’s the first time that we managed to finish in the top 14 in the dry. At the moment we’re currently in Q2, but we don’t know how the weather will be like tomorrow. We did a good job today though: I really have a good feeling with the bike and that gives me a boost of confidence, as I know that when we’re in a good place we can be competitive. We still need to work ahead of tomorrow, especially for sector one where I’m still losing a lot of time, but today-wise I’m happy!”
