LE MANS: RODRIGO IN THE POINTS, ALCOBA’S COMEBACK ENDS WITH CRASH

It could have been a whole different Sunday for Team Kömmerling Gresini Moto3, who at Le Mans were among the protagonists for the majority of the race with both riders.

Gabriel Rodrigo, after a great start, was able to stay with the leading group for the whole race, showing a great pace. In the final stages, tyre wearing took away that little extra that would have allowed him to be aggressive and fight for the podium. The #2 rider still finished with an eighth place at the end of what surely wasn’t an easy weekend.

A more unfortunate ending awaited Jeremy Alcoba, who put together a great comeback in the first part of the race (from 25th to 9th in only few laps and even nine place recovered at the start) and then was forced to retire with four laps to go after crashing out at turn ten.

ARAGON NEXT FOR TEAM KÖMMERLING GRESINI MOTO3

With today’s race at Le Mans in the books, it is already time to focus for the upcoming two racing weekends at Alcañiz, a track both Kömmerling know and appreciate: last year, Alcoba claimed pole position and finished on the podium in the CEV series while Rodrigo who was ninth last year, has an eighth place as best result so far at this track (2016).

8th – GABRIEL RODRIGO #2

“It was a quick-paced race and I must say I had a perfect bike, so I want to thank the team for this. At the beginning I had no problem in staying close to the lead, but then when tyre wear kicked in, I was struggling under acceleration and I couldn’t even overtake under braking because it could have been dangerous. In any case, we scored some important points and now we are heading for a doubleheader in Alcañiz, on a track I like a lot and we are aiming at improving some more.”

DNF – JEREMY ALCOBA #52

“I’m very happy because I did an incredible race. I felt at easy this morning during warmup and had an excellent pace in the race. I hope I entertained a lot of people today, but then I made a mistake by switching to the wrong gear… Now we are looking forward to MotorLand where I hope we’ll do better, hopefully with also a better grid start. It’s a circuit I like and where I did well in the CEV, but the world championship a whole different thing…”
