FREE PRACTICE: RODRIGO ON TOP FORM, ALCOBA QUICK LEARNER
Another positive Friday for Team Kömmerling Gresini Moto3 who at Brno – Czech Republic – got to the top of the timesheets courtesty of a Gabriel Rodrigo in scintillating form. On the track where he claimed his maiden pole position (2017), the Argentine rider put his experience and speed to good use by sealing the direct seed to Q2 thanks to a 2’08.612secs lap-time set in the morning.
A bit of a harder time – but expectable – for Jeremy Alcoba, who was 17th overall but only a tenth of a second away from 14th (the last place with direct seed to Q2). The young Spanish rider performed well aboard Honda NSF250RW #52. A little more than a second separates him from his team mate, but he is expected to make big steps forward already from tomorrow, with the FP2 of Grand Prix České republiky that will get underway at 9:00 GMT+2.
1st – GABRIEL RODRIGO #2 (2’08.612)
“Brno is a track a like a lot and it was kind of evident today. As an opening day, things were very positive and in the afternoon, even without putting on any fresh tyre, we were at the front. It was harder to improve, but I’m pretty sure times will drop in FP3 with the right tyre. We still have to work a lot for the race, but I think and hope that we’ll have fun.”
17th – JEREMY ALCOBA #52 (2’09.861)
“I was very surprised with this circuit, which is really spectacular: from the location to the track, and I wasn’t expecting the uphill section of the last split being so steep… Compared to Jerez this is a bumpy track so we need to learn quick, as it’s so wide it’s easy to get lost in the different lines. We lapped without slipstream in the FP2 and we were in the top ten, so I strongly believe that tomorrow we’ll be able to do well already from the morning.”
