LOWES IMPROVES ON DAY TWO AT PHILLIP ISLAND

Sam Lowes will start tomorrow’s #AustralianGP race from the back of the grid following the penalty inflicted to the Briton after a collision with Raffin: a penalty that was accepted by Lowes and that did not distract the standard bearer of Team Federal Oil Gresini Moto2 from his on-track duties.

The former World Supersport champion played with the weight distribution of his bike, eventually finding a set-up that allowed him to first head Q1 and then finish Q2 within the top-six, with a 0.476secs gap from Jorge Navarro’s pole position.

A comeback is on the agenda for tomorrow, with the Moto2 race that will start at 3:20 local time.

6th– SAM LOWES #22

“Today was definitely a good day… I was fourth in FP3, first in Q1 and then sixth in qualifying. We worked hard with the bike, especially with weight distribution and geometry and today, despite a completely different weather, I felt very good on the bike. Unfortunately, we have a penalty in place that will make us start from the back of the grid, but we have what it takes for a good race. This is a penalty that I accept and I want to apologise for what happened yesterday, it was something that does not represent me as a person and I’m happy that there were no consequences.”
