LOWES: “PROBABLY THE BEST FRIDAY OF THE SEASON”

There is fresh optimism in the Federal Oil Gresini Moto2 Team pit-box after the first free practice sessions of the eighth Grand Prix of the season at Assen, the Netherlands. After setting the fastest lap-time in the morning session, Sam Lowes was third overall at the end of the day, with great confidence heading into tomorrow’s qualifying day.

The 1’37.592secs lap-time logged by the Briton is a great sign for a category that sees twenty riders within eight tenths of a second. The best news of today comes from the race pace, however, as the former World Supersport Champion was constantly in the mid-high 1’37secs on the long run.

Moto2 proceeding will resume tomorrow morning at 10:55 local time (GMT+2) with FP3, with the direct access to Q2 (which will begin at 15:30) that looks to be sealed already.

3rd– SAM LOWES #22

“This has probably been one of the best days of the season. We lapped a lot and always with great pace; we tried something in the second outing with new tyres and we were quick. Surely the direction is the right one, but we will need to keep working. I always lapped on my own and consistently quick. We improved our pace a lot in the afternoon, even though the temperature change didn’t affect us much. Between FP1 and FP2 the bike improved considerably; we can say we’re 70% ready, so we’ll try to be at our best tomorrow.”
