NAVARRO TO START DUTCH MOTO2 RACE FROM ROW 7

It was not an easy Saturday for the Federal Oil Gresini Moto2 team and for Jorge Navarro, who could not finish higher than 19th in today’s qualifying at TT Circuit Assen, where the eighth Grand Prix of the 2017 Moto2 World Championship is currently underway.

The 21 year-old Spanish rider crashed unhurt twice on the wet strip of asphalt of the Dutch venue, which did not help him find the right feeling with the bike and the track’s slippery surface. The qualifying session was a hectic one: it started with red flags deployed after Baldassarre’s crash at turn 15 – which stopped on-track activities for half an hour – then it was Pasini’s mistake that led to Jorge’s crash at turn 5.

Team Manager Fausto Gresini says: “We struggled today, especially in the last sector. Jorge could not find the right confidence and feeling to attack the fast part of the circuit, but all in all we’re one second away from the top, which means that even a little step forward can make a lot of difference. We must not forget that this is a learning year for him.”

19th – JORGE NAVARRO #9

“The two crashes obviously didn’t help: the first one on the wet this morning and this afternoon with the help of Pasini. This is racing, but the fact is that we were unable to work the way we’d have liked. We’re both fine, which is the most important thing! It’s been quite a strange session and the changes we made after yesterday did not help much, so we’ll have to try something different in the warm up. I made a couple of mistakes on my last lap and without them I think I would have finished in the top 15, but I’m still unhappy with the feeling on board my bike.”
