MISSED CHANCE FOR SALAC AT PHILLIP ISLAND
RACE – #AustralianGP It was a bitter Sunday for team Gresini Racing Moto2, who had high expectations on Filip Salač as the rider #12 had been in the top ten in all the session often prior to the race. The Czech rider, who started from tenth place on the grid, picked up the pace straight away and made his way up to fourth position. With still 15 laps left, however, he made a mistake and crashed out of the race as his and the team’s hopes for a great result shattered.
Alessandro Zaccone, on the other hand, started the race from twenty-eighth place: the rider #61 managed to improve his pace in the second half of the encounter and narrowly missed on a top-15 result (he was 16th at the checkered flag).
16th – ALESSANDRO ZACCONE #61
“A colourless performance, but we weren’t expecting much more than this. I struggled today in the race, too, as it also happened on Saturday. I improved my pace in the second part of the encounter; when the tank gets emptier, I somehow manage to be quicker. Now we’ll wait for Malaysia to make amends.”
DNF- FILIP SALAČ #12
“I’m really disappointed. After a perfect weekend, in which we were constantly in the top ten, I got a good start to the race and after a few laps I was fourth already. I had the situation under control, but with 15 laps left I made a mistake: I opened the throttle a bit too early at turn 1, the front tucked, and I crashed. I’m really sorry for the team: the guys worked hard throughout the weekend and the bike was perfect. We move on to the next one with a lot more experience, however, as it was the first time we managed to be so quick on the dry, too. We’ll try again in Malaysia!”
