PONS ON FIFTH ROW IN HOME GP
Edgar Pons was thirteenth at the end of today’s qualifying session for the Spanish Grand Prix at the end of an extremely hot day, in which the #57 rider of Team Federal Oil Gresini Moto2 was unable to capitalise after a great performance in FP3. The 1’41.558secs lap time set in the morning would have placed him on the front row!
The difficult moment continues for Nicolò Bulega, who had unfortunate crash in the morning after running wide at turn one. With so much time lost in FP3 and the inability to qualify directly to Q2, Bulega was only sixth in Q1. The #11 will line up on the 20th place of the grid for the start of the second race of the season.
The Moto2 encounter at Jerez will get underway at 12:20 local time (GMT +2).
13th – EDGAR PONS #57 (1’42.299)
“We went a lot better compared to yesterday. There’s something to improve still with the qualifying set-up but this morning the bike was really good. Without the extreme heat the bike was working really well. Tomorrow it will be a very hard race, it will important to manage the tyres well in the early laps and I would like to thank all the team.”
20th – NICOLÒ BULEGA #11 (1’42.183)
“Surely this morning’s crash and the time lost didn’t help. We worked a lot but we’re far from the right set-up with these conditions and temperatures. It will be an uphill race for sure, but we need to bring home the first points in the season and to work for next week’s race.”
