PONS ON TOP FORM IN ARAGON FREE PRACTICE
A very positive Friday has finally happened for Team Federal Oil Gresini Moto2 who claims at MotorLand Aragon today an excellent fourth place in the combined two free practice sessions courtesy of Edgar Pons. The Spanish rider set a personal best lap-time of 1’53.017secs, which was a little more than two tenths away from today’s leader Fabio Di Giannantonio. The potential for a good weekend is there, as Pons can count of a great amount of experience around the corners of the track as well as with a much-improved feeling with the bike.
Nicolò Bulega did not enjoy the same amount of success today on the day of his 21st birthday. He was 22ndoverall with quite a significant gap from the top (+1.419secs) even though the direct seed to Q2 is still within reach for the Italian, as fourteenth place Dixon is around six tenths of a second away.
FP3 will once again be crucial, with the session set to get underway at 11:25 local time (GMT+2), instead of the usual 10:55.
4th – EDGAR PONS (1’53.017)
“I’m very happy with today. It’s clear that knowing the track to perfection beforehand helps and today it showed. Having said that, the bike is working very well, and I also know where to push to the limit here. We still need to do some fine-tuning in order to be more comfortable on the bike especially for the race. We’re working very well with the team and tomorrow we’ll try to be even more competitive: we’re looking for an important result which both myself and the team deserve.”
22nd – NICOLÒ BULEGA (1’54.167)
“We’re very far from the top and clearly this is not good. We worked hard in the afternoon, but this morning we lost a lot of time due to an issue with the electronics and tomorrow in FP3 we will have to do the best we can to get into Q2.”
