PORTIMAO TO OPEN EUROPEAN SEASON FOR MOTO3 CLASS

After the doubleheader of Losail, which brought good performances but little rewards, Team Indonesian Racing Gresini Moto3 prepares the assault to the third event of the season – the first on European soil – which will take place at Portimao.

Gabriel Rodrigo and Jeremy Alcoba have already shown their competitiveness on the challenging Portuguese track both in the last official event of 2020 (with the podium claimed by the #52 rider) and in the preseason tests of 2021. One and a half months ago, the Gresini standard bearers had completed around one hundred laps each while gathering plenty of data which will be useful at this year’s Portuguese Grand Prix.

This will not be an easy event, especially for Jeremy Alcoba, who was involved into a scuffle by McPhee at Losail, will see his podium chances greatly reduced due to a pit-lane start penalty – with a five-second delay. Moto3 debutant Acosta showed that nothing is impossible, especially in Moto3.

GABRIEL RODRIGO #2

“We made the most of last week to recharge our batteries after the long trip in Qatar. The desire to race again is already huge and last year I was competitive in Portimao. We’re in a good form right now and I think we can do really good things in the next evet. The last moments of the DohaGP race have left a bitter taste in my mouth, so we will race to win in Portugal.”

JEREMY ALCOBA #52

“We want to make a step forward. We will need to work on our own for the race. Time attack and qualifying will count very little, knowing we will be starting from the pit-lane on Sunday. Let’s take the positive side (if there is one). We will work on tyres and race pace during all sessions on Friday and Saturday, with the goal to put together a comeback on Sunday and get back to the leaders.”
