CHALLENGING OPENING DAY FOR TEAM GRESINI MOTO2 AT VALENCIA
Free Practice – #ValenciaGP Team Gresini Racing Moto2 did not enjoy a positive start to the final round of the 2022 Moto2 World Championship, with both standard bearers outside of the top 14 and therefore, at the moment, not directly qualified to Q2.
Filip Salač is still feeling the effects of the Sepang Crash, with the Czech rider only 19th in the combined times of today’s two FP sessions. He is only two tenths away from the top 14, which means that the direct seed to Q2 is still within reach – with the last chance being tomorrow morning’s Free Practice 3.
Alessandro Zaccone was not too far away from his teammate lap-time wise, with the Italian able to improve by one second across the two sessions. There are some more set-up adjustments in plan for tomorrow, which hopefully will help the Italian rider being seeded directly to Q2.
19th – FILIP SALAČ #12 (1’36.110)
“It was a difficult day as I was riding over the pain in my right wrist and left finger. We didn’t complete a lot of laps but I cannot wait for tomorrow in order to jump back on the bike: I’m not giving up, I want to bring home a good result in this last race and I will do my utmost to achieve it, like I’ve always done.”
22nd – ALESSANDRO ZACCONE #61 (1’36.264)
“We made a big step forward compared to the morning. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to put together the perfect lap with the new tyre first due to traffic, while on the last lap due to the tyre wear once I finally had clear track ahead. We need to keep working because the front tucks often. We will try to make our way into Q2, which is not too far away at the moment, and there surely is margin for improvement.”
