PROVISIONAL DIRECT SEED TO Q2 FOR SALAČ AT BARCELONA, ZACCONE LESS THAN A SECOND AWAY
Free Practice – #CatalanGP After only four days of break, team Gresini Racing Moto2 is back on track – this time at Montmeló’s ‘Circuit de Catalunya’. In Free Practice 1, both riders had a great feeling with their motorcycles, while the high track temperatures encountered in the afternoon made their job a little bit more challenging.
Filip Salač managed to set his quickest lap-time of the day during the morning session in 1’45.286secs, which gave him a temporary direct access to Q2. The rider #12 managed to get up to speed immediately, while showing a good pace. A few mistakes and difficult conditions made the afternoon session trickier and prevented the Czech rider from improving his lap-times. His 14th place in the combined times means that he will have to do his utmost to defend his position tomorrow morning in FP3.
Alessandro Zaccone finished the day with a 1.712secs gap from the top. The rider #61 made the most of the first session to regain confidence at this track. The lack of grip in FP2 did not allow him to further improve, but he will have another chance tomorrow. He will try to make the most of FP3 in order to make some adjustments and try his best to get into Q2 from the main door.
14th – FILIP SALAČ #12 (1’45.286)
“FP1 went well. I was at ease with the bike straight away and I managed to lap with a good pace. The second session was a lot harder and it was very hot: we tried to put a new tyre on but I made a couple of mistakes that prevented me from improving my time. We will try again tomorrow!”
24th – ALESSANDRO ZACCONE #61 (1’46.162)
“The first session was quite positive: I tried to find the speed at this track. The second session was a lot more complicated: the high temperatures and the slippery track prevented me from improving. We will make some adjustments ahead of tomorrow’s FP3 with the goal of making a step forward and making the most of the morning’s asphalt conditions, which will be better.”
