SUBPAR QUALIFYING IN AUSTRIA

Qualifying – #AustrianGP The second day of action at the Red Bull Ring was a bit of a rollercoaster for team Gresini Racing Moto2: the morning’s free practice 3 session saw Salač sealing his direct seed to Q2 courtesy also to a good strategy, which allowed him to log a competitive lap-time early on in the session; Zaccone had a bit of a more challenging time and, despite a slight improvement in his performance, he still had to play his cards in Q1.

After three free practice sessions spent consistently near the top of the classification, Q2 turned out to be an unfortunate one for Filip Salač, who experienced a technical issue with his front-tyre which heavily affected his performance. Despite the inconvenience, the Czech rider will line up in fourteenth place on the grid, which is still an improvement to what he was able to achieve on day two at Silverstone. The feeling with the bike is excellent and therefore the chances for a good comeback in the race are there.

The Austrian qualifying session was definitely a difficult one for Alessandro Zaccone, who missed out on Q2 for four tenths of a second. The rider #61 will start tomorrow’s race from row eight: he and his crew have some further adjustment in mind for his Kalex machine in order to improve a little and be able to battle for a top-15 result.

14th – FILIP SALAČ #12 (1’34.516)

“After another perfect free practice session, we suffered a technical problem with the front tyre during qualifying. It’s a real shame, because the bike is perfect and the team did an impeccable job. The race, however, is tomorrow, so we’ll see what it’ll bring.”

23th – ALESSANDRO ZACCONE #61 (1’35.007)

“We were able to make a little step forward during qualifying, but we’ll try another adjustment in order to recover between 3 and 4 tenths of a second and hopefully battle with the group that starts ahead of us. It wasn’t our best qualifying, but we’ll work hard ahead of tomorrow’s race.”
