SATURDAY STRUGGLE FOR NAVARRO AT MOTEGI

Jorge Navarro was only 26th at the end of today’s Moto2 qualifying at Motegi, in what was a very complicated day for Team Federal Oil Gresini Moto2. The young Spaniard ended up three seconds away from the top as he logged a personal best lap-time of 1’56.940secs.

It was an extremely difficult session due to track conditions and a not ideal choice of tyres, which saw Navarro staying out on track on wet tyres for the majority of QP. Adding to today’s challenges, there was also a crash during FP3, which fortunately left no mark on the 21-year-old – but definitely did not help either.

Navarro will try to put together a comeback from the ninth row of the grid in tomorrow’s 23-lap, Japanese GP Moto2 race, which will get underway at 12:20 local time (GMT +9).

26º – JORGE NAVARRO #9

“It was an extremely complicated day for us. I did not have a good feeling this morning already and surely the crash didn’t help. We started qualifying on wet tyres and when I came back I made a mistake in not switching to slick tyres. So, during my third outing I did not have the right feeling and if I had a bit more laps under my belt I would have surely done better. We have to learn from this mistake and look forward, although I know it won’t be an easy race.”
