FRUSTRATINGLY POSITIVE SATURDAY FOR DIGGIA AT VALENCIA

#ValenciaGP qualifying. “ARGH!!!” sums up the final Moto2 qualifying of Fabio Di Giannantonio, which took place today at Valencia’s Ricardo Tormo Circuit. The rider #21 of Team Federal Oil Gresini Moto2 was almost unstoppable during Q2 (which he clinched smoothly with a fifth-quickest time in this morning’s free practice) as he narrowly missed on pole position twice.

A first 1’34.8 lap-time was cancelled as he slightly exceeded track limits at turn 12, while a small mistake at sector four in his last quick-lap attempt prevented him from finishing higher than fourth – as he ended up 0.088secs shy of pole position. The pace is there, however, so Diggia will try to finish his Moto2 journey on a high note tomorrow from 12:20 local time (GMT +1).

Another day to forget on the other side of the Gresini pit-box, with Bulega who was once again not competitive aboard his Kalex machine. He will line up on 24th place on the grid.

4th – FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO #21 (1’35.034)

“I’m really sorry, because pole position was ours today. We went on the green stripe at turn 12 and my 1’38.4secs lap-time was cancelled. That’s really a shame because I cared about it and I felt like I had what it takes. I could have taken it on my second attempt but I made a mistake in sector four. We still have something to improve for tomorrow, but we want to finish on a high note and we’ll do our best to do so.”

24th – NICOLÒ BULEGA (1’35.620)

“We needed two steps forward compared to yesterday in order to be competitive today. We made only one: the bike improved, but so other riders. I was hoping to wrap up my Moto2 journey with a good performance, but it won’t be easy by starting so far back on the grid.”
