SALAČ SIXTEENTH IN QUALIFYING, ZACCONE WILL START FROM ROW EIGHT
Qualifying – #ValenciaGP It was qualifying day for Gresini Racing Moto2, with the sun shining over Valencia’s ‘Circuito Ricardo Tormo’. With a 1’35.268secs lap-time set in the third free practice session, Filip Salač made it his way directly into Q2. A mistake by the team with the rear tyre, however, compromised his qualifying performance. The rider #12 still managed to log the 16th quickest time in the session: he will start tomorrow’s race from row six, ready to give it all to wrap up his rookie Moto2 on a high.
Alessandro Zaccone had a good feeling with the bike in qualifying and managed to set a 1’35.282secs lap-time, which unfortunately was not enough to make it through Q1. Despite being 23rd on the grid, he was only 0.9secs away from the time logged by this year’s Moto2 polesitter. The pace is good and not too far off the leaders, meaning the #61 is ready for a comeback, with the race getting underway tomorrow at 12:20 local time (GMT +1).
16th – FILIP SALAČ #12 (1’35.138)
“It was another difficult day: as soon as I woke up this morning I wasn’t sure I would have been able to ride as the hand was swollen. Then I jumped on the bike in FP3 and set a good time straight away, which allowed me to earn the direct seed to Q2. Unfortunately the team made a mistake with the rear time, but it’s part of the game and sometimes it can happen. We’re still sixteenth and the race is tomorrow, anything can happen! I’m not expecting a great result because 25 laps are a lot and the hand will hurt, but we’ll try!”
23rd – ALESSANDRO ZACCONE #61 (1’35.282)
“I’m quite happy with this qualifying session; not for the result itself, since we’re starting quite far back, but for the lap-time: we’re nine tenths away from pole. We managed to put together a series of good laps, but we now want to make a further step forward. To be so close from pole is surely a good achievement, though!”
