SALAČ NARROWLY MISSES ON Q2 ADMISSION, ZACCONE IMPROVESS

Qualifying – #AmericasGP The second day of action at the Circuit of Americas has drawn to a close for the standard bearers of team Gresini Racing Moto2. Both riders made the most of the morning session to try a new set-up ahead of qualifying. The changes did not satisfy Salač, who chose to revert to the Friday configuration to try and make it into Q2: he did not succeed, also due to the many yellow flag situations that cancelled the last flying laps logged by the rider during FP3. Zaccone had the same problem: despite improving on his personal best lap-time, he saw it cancelled due to the yellow flag: for Q1 he also returned to the same set-up used on Friday.

Filip Salač did not make it into Q2 for only 52 thousandths of a second. He was third during Q1 before losing the front-end and crashing out, a setback that took away his chances to further improve his lap-time. He will start tomorrow’s race from the 19th place of the grid.

Alessandro Zaccone will line up on the 26th slot after significantly improving his pace, as he was only 0.198secs away from a possible admission to Q2. The rider #61 also managed to improve his feeling with the Kalex machine, which makes him confident ahead of tomorrow’s race.

19th – FILIP SALAČ #12 (2’10.209)

“We were very quick today: my best lap would have allowed me to make it into Q2, but unfortunately, I crashed out. I would like to apologise to the whole team: I was trying to give my best but I pushed past the limit, hence the tumble. Now we need to think about tomorrow and have fun: we have nothing to lose!”

26th – ALESSANDRO ZACCONE #61 (2’11.486)

“We were finally able to improve, even though to be honest we were expecting something better: unfortunately I wasn’t able to get into the right slipstream. We will keep working and try something new tomorrow morning as well, during warm up: the goal for the race is to stay with the pack and try to put together a comeback.”
