#SANMARINOGP: RODRIGO ON FRONT ROW, EIGHTH PLACE FOR ALCOBA
It has been a near-perfect Saturday for Team Kömmerling Gresini Moto3 that saw Gabriel Rodrigo back at the sharp end of the field while Jeremy Alcoba surprised everyone once again.
We start from the Spanish rider, who was one second away from the top in 23rd place yesterday: today, he managed to earn the direct seed to Q2 with a 12th place in the combined Free Practice classification and then claim a third-row start in what was his debut qualifying session at this track – which he rode on for the first time yesterday. The 0.4secs gap place him on the eighth slot of the grid with a chance to be a protagonist in tomorrow’s race.
Excellent work also for Rodrigo, who did all he could to shine so far this weekend: pace, speed and the second place on the grid for the #SanMarinoGP encounter. The Argentine did well in making his way through traffic and was only pipped a the very last second by Ogura.
2nd – GABRIEL RODRIGO #2 (1’42.419)
“It wasn’t easy to set that lap-time with so much traffic and with riders ahead that were slowing me down a little. I did a good lap in my last attempt, I knew I could be on pole, but nevertheless the front row is crucial for this race… I expect a fast-paced race like Jerez2 or Austria2 and I believe the quicker riders will make selection from the beginning. We’re ready for the race, we have pace, but there a lot of rivals to look out for.”
8th – JEREMY ALCOBA #52 (1’42.808)
“I’m very happy… We worked basically all night long yesterday in order to find a way to improve. We knew the crucial areas are four corners and this morning we fixed something. With both the soft and hard tyre options we were half a second away from the leaders, and with used tyres we were even quicker than yesterday. I’m happy because yesterday I was mad with myself, and I would like to thank the team for their full support.”
