HISTORIC ONE-TWO IN MONTMELÓ QUALIFYING
#CatalanGP qualifying. Team Indonesian Racing Gresini Moto3 has raised the bar today and moved to the very front of the starting grid at Montmeló – the venue hosting the sixth round of the season – as the two standard bearers of the Faenza-based squad scored a superb one-two in qualifying.
Today’s result is an absolute first for the team in the quarter-litre class of MotoGP: the record-year 2018 was the last time two Gresini Racing riders were sharing the front row, albeit back then at Jerez it was Martin on pole and Di Giannantonio in third place.
Gabri Rodrigo’s pole position was a sensational one, with the Argentine who looks as confident as ever after logging a 1’47.597secs (which is the new record for the revised track), which was three tenths of a second quicker than Jeremy Alcoba’s – with the latter achieving his fifth front-row start out of the last eight races. Not too bad for a rider who used to consider himself not a time-attack master.

1st – GABRIEL RODRIGO #2 (1’47.597)
“I feel even stronger than in Italy. I feel extremely comfortable on the bike and yesterday we also made some adjustments that added some extra confidence. Pole position is surely a great result in what I consider a home GP. Pole aside, in any case, we have a fantastic pace and I only hope that the weather will be favourable tomorrow so that we can have a great race. In the final minutes me and Jeremy decided to help each other on track and it was a perfect strategy.”
2nd – JEREMY ALCOBA #52 (1’47.914)
“In the final three minutes Gabri suggested me the strategy you all saw, which turned out to be the winning one. I pushed in the first sector and then I placed myself in the slipstream and I would say things went well. It will be a challenging race tomorrow as tyres wear out pretty quickly and I think from half race onwards it will be important to keep an eye on it, while still racing at the front.”
