KÖMMERLING GRESINI RIDERS INSIDE THE TOP SIX AT SPIELBERG ON DAY ONE
The second consecutive weekend of motorcycle racing in Austria has begun in a very good way for Team Kömmerling Gresini Moto3 thanks to the excellent performances of both their riders in this sunny Friday of free practice for the Grand Prix of Styria.
We start from Jeremy Alcoba, who was sixth today courtesy of a 1’36.482secs lap-time logged in the morning, which demonstrates the huge step forward compared to a week ago, when he was in the lower part of the timesheets and unable to break the 1’38secs barrier. The Spanish rider has shown great commitment and will on a track that he does not seem to enjoy to the fullest – and in light of today’s performance he might have earned a ticket for a direct seed to Q2.
Gabriel Rodrigo managed to do even better than his teammate. After starting with a steadier approach following the issues encountered in the race last Sunday, in the afternoon the Argentine rider managed to get up to speed and ultimately lapped 73 thousandths of a second quicker than Alcba, despite a mistake at turn four during his last quick-lap attempt.
4th – GABRIEL RODRIGO #2 (1’36.409)
“First of all, we solved the engine issues that hampered our performance in the race last week and that was already a good starting point. We changed the engine in FP2 and lapped most of the time with hard rear and soft front tyres, which is the option I like the least. Once we got out with the choice that I prefer the times came straight away and now we can work at our best to finally enjoy a good race.”
6th – JEREMY ALCOBA #52 (1’36.482)
“We come from a good race, but I must say that we improved a lot today already. We made some changes with gearing and now the bike behaviour is a lot more consistent. Honestly I thought that in the last outing this morning we were using time-attack tyres, while instead I was out again with a hard rear: despite that, I was able to set a great lap-time… power of the mind I guess.”
