TEAM TRENTINO GRESINI BEGIN TITLE DEFENCE WITHOUT ZACCONE

The last time we saw Team Trentino Gresini MotoE on track was on November 2019 and in that occasion, not too far (geographically speaking) from where the team is now, Matteo Ferrari was crowed the first-ever MotoE World Cup Champion. This weekend, the winning combination Gresini-Ferrari will be back in action with the goal to pick up where they left off.

Alongside him, unfortunately, there will not be Alessandro Zaccone this weekend, as the young Italian had an unfortunate crash yesterday during the final session of the official MotoE test at turn 11 – in which he hit hard his left knee. Medical checks found a small crack in his femur, which will force the #61 to undergo surgery in the next hours with the ambitious goal to be already back on track next weekend for the second round.

Matteo Ferrari will be the only one to defend the Team Trentino Gresini banner. The reining world cup champion was third fastest at the end of the day despite the very little time spent on track. Ferrari will carry the team on his shoulders alone starting from tomorrow’s free practice one at 11:50 local time (GMT +2).

MATTEO FERRARI #11

“I’m absolutely ready for the two races in Jerez. I’m really eager to start again, especially since the last race was last November. It will be a strange trip, with many rules to respect and without the crowd… We are ready, because in Jerez we were quick both during testing but it won’t be easy with two back-to-back rounds, because everybody will be able to study each other, so the second event will be even more competitive and tight. We had some things in mind to try today, but we didn’t manage to complete our schedule. We set a good lap-time despite the lack of track time, but there’s a lot of work to do because Aegerter in particular did very well, and he seems to be our fiercest opponent. It will be a kind of new championship and experience and it will be fun heat aside, because I believe the high temperatures will continue. The team is getting better and better and it showed already at the CIV, so we’re eager to start on the right foot.”

ALESSANDRO ZACCONE #61

“Unfortunately I got a small fracture in my femur and now I have a small piece of bone in the knee cartilage. Putting any pressure on it could damage both cartilage and tendons. Unfortunately I tucked the front – which is something a lot of riders experienced but myself in particular – and it’s sad to start my journey on the world stage this way. This weekend I will be a spectator and we’ll be waiting for surgery and new examinations with a lot of confidence.”
