FRIDAY AT #GERMANGP: LOWES SEVEN TENTHS AWAY FROM THE TOP

The opening day of action for the German Grand Prix at Sachsenring had its positives and negatives: despite the crash at turn 3 in the afternoon that took away a considerable portion of track-time, at the end of the day Sam Lowes and Team Federal Oil Gresini Moto2 are not too far from the top of the combined classification of FP1 and FP2.

The British riders, who only managed to complete 17 laps across the two free practice sessions at Sachsenring, still managed to log a 1’24.697secs lap-time, which was only seventh tenths slower than provisional pole and only three tenths away from the top-3. For the former World Supersport Champion, tomorrow’s FP3 will be crucial in order to move up in the timesheets and earn a direct access to Q2 – which is only a few thousandths of a second away.

Moto2 proceedings will retume tomorrow morning at 10:55 with FP3, while Q2 will begin at 15:30 local time (GMT+2), with temperatures expected to reach 27°C, 5 degrees Celsius higher than today.

17th– SAM LOWES #22

“Honestly it hasn’t been a good day and it’s all because of the mistake I made this afternoon. My knee hurts a little especially in the left-handed corners, but the times are very close and we’re two tenths away from the top-six. It’s not a disaster, but we need to improve especially with the rear-end grip, because even the front-end is affected by that and it’s currently not the best. We will work on it tonight already and then tomorrow during FP3. We did many changes between FP1 and FP2 so we have plenty of data to compare.”
