ZACCONE IMPROVES, SALAC CLOSE TO DIRECT Q2 ADMISSION

Free Practice – #SpanishGP Team Gresini Racing Moto2 has completed the opening day of action at the Jerez Circuit in southern Spain, the same venue that hosted an official test session during the off-season. The data gathered on that occasion was key in today’s FP sessions already as the team could start from a solid base in terms of set-up.

After a promising start in the morning session – despite the lack of grip around the track – a technical issue during FP2 prevented Filip Salač from further improving his personal best lap-time: the Czech rider therefore ended the day in 17th position as he is currently out of the group of riders eligible for the direct seed to Q2 for only 0.071secs.

Alessandro Zaccone had an encouraging day with an improved feeling with the Kalex motorcycle, as he spent the majority of his time focusing on the bike behavior under braking. The Italian rider is 23rd in the combined times of today’s two free practice session – 1.188secs shy of first place. The rider #61 will have another go at the direct Q2 admission tomorrow.

17th – FILIP SALAČ #12 (1’42.593)

“FP2 was really a difficult session for us given the technical issue we experienced, which prevented us from taking to the track and improving. I hope we can fix it tomorrow as my goal is to get into Q2.”

23rd – ALESSANDRO ZACCONE #61 (1’42.834)

“I’m a bit disappointed with today’s result because we’re really doing a good job, but luck was not on our side: after putting the fresh tyres for the time attack, I was only able to log one lap due to the yellow flag situations. We have improved, but we could have done better if we had the chance. We’re still close to Q2 and tomorrow we’ll have another session to try again: we’ll do our best!”
