Having ascertained the Aprilia RS-GP’s good performance on the Montmelò asphalt, the rider from Granollers tackled the afternoon session working on pace and tyre choice. With a time attack in the finale, he then clinched a top-10 spot and with it, provisional direct access to the Q2 session.
Lorenzo Savadori, on the other hand, familiarised himself with a circuit that is new to him, astride a MotoGP bike, no less. In extremely close standings, the Italian rookie still improved his times consistently, faltering only a bit on the new tyre. In any case, especially in FP2, Lorenzo demonstrated good speed, outperforming big-name and much more experienced rivals.
