THE MOST TRADITIONAL #FRENCHGP GETS UNDERWAY WITH FREE PRACTICE

Raise hands whoever was not expecting rain and cold in this first day of free practice at Le Mans… Team Kömmerling Gresini Moto3 tiptoed its way into the tenth event of the season, while looking for a good set-up for wet conditons even though, in the next two days, sun and slightly warmer temperatures are expected.

It is unlikely that today’s times will remain competitive ahead of the battle for the direct seed to Q2, with Gabriel Rodrigo and Jeremy Alcoba who will have to turn their attention and effort to tomorrow’s FP3, which gets underway at 9am local time (GMT +2).

The two Gresini standard bearers are separated by a few tenths of a second in 11th and 18th, with the Argentine who logged a 1’46.2secs lap-time while the Spaniard lapped in 1’47.0. With dry track expected for tomorrow, a low 1’42secs time will be needed to be near the top of the timesheets.

11th – GABRIEL RODRIGO #2

“This morning the track was very slippery. The first run went well but then a crash happened, fortunately without consequences. It didn’t make much sense to lap in FP1 given the dry forecast expected for the next two days, while in the afternoon we tried to find some pace. Tomorrow in FP3 we will have a penalty, so we’ll need to be extra focused in order to get into Q2 directly.”

18th – JEREMY ALCOBA #52

“A kind of strange day, as conditions were not ideal to find a good set-up. We were improving in FP2 with a track that was a bit dryer, but we can and must to better. We are already working on fixing a set-up issue with Ivano and Andrea and tomorrow, with the sun shining, we will surely be competitive.”
