TWO OUT OF TWO: FERRARI DOMINATES AT ASSEN
Team MotoE FELO Gresini Racing wraps up the first part of the season the best possible way with Matteo Ferrari the undisputed king at the TT Circuit Assen. The rider #11 started from second position on the grid and finished both races at the top: he crossed the line 0.6secs ahead of Torres in race one and battled with the championship leader for the win up to the last corner in race two. Ferrari is now second in the standings and only 8 points away from the top, ready to give his all in the second part of the season – which will resume at Silverstone after the summer break.
It was a positive day also for Alessio Finello, who achieved the goal of points scoring in both races. From sixteenth place on the grid, he is 15th in race one; he further improved in race two as he set his fastest time of the weekend and the event best maximum speed in 247.2 km/h. The Turin-born rider crossed the line in thirteenth place, for a total of four points bagged this weekend.
MATTEO FERRARI #11 (RACE1: 🥇; RACE2: 🥇)
“I am very happy: we worked a lot during the winter. I had never won outside of Italy in the previous four years, but this year we changed the momentum and I would like to thank the team because they did a great job, they always believed in me and I think this year they made another step forward to allow me to be here, on top of the podium twice. Both race were good: we didn’t set any lap record or pole position, but I prefer a weekend like this one, with two wins. Torres was always up there with us so we closed the gap and we’ll battle until the end. There are still four rounds, eight races left so we need to stay focused and we’ll see how we go at Silverstone!”
ALESSIO FINELLO #72 (RACE1: 15th; RACE2: 13th)
“Race one was ok, my pace wasn’t too quick but I was able to improve my lap-time quite a lot compared to free practice; this is proof that I need to improve how I manage the first day in order to be quick right from the first session. I only scored one point but it was a key one because it game me confidence for race two, in which I was more charged up and I was able to set my quickest lap of the weekend. We finished close to the top ten, but unfortunately starting from so far back didn’t help. We need to improve in qualifying. We now head into summer holidays with a smile! We improved a lot and found the mojo we had lost at the Sachsenring. We’ll be more charged up and ready at Silverstone, and also more competitive. I would like to thank the team as they worked so well since the first race and supported me also in the difficult times. I’d also like to thank the sponsors who are always by my side in this adventure.”
