TEAM DEL CONCA GRESINI TO WRAP UP EUROPEAN SEASON AT ARAGON
The last event before the three-in-a-row flyaway journey of MotoGP takes place this weekend at MotorLand Aragón, with Team Del Conca Gresini’s Jorge Martin and Fabio Di Giannantonio ready to attack the Spanish track – which is a favourite of both riders.
After returning to podium ways in the wet at Misano, Fabio Di Giannantonio arrives to Spain even more charged up for a good result, as he looks forward to consolidating his top-5 position in the standings and narrowing the gap to third place, which is now 45 points away (Canet).
The Italian rider will surely have an opponent in his team mate Jorge Martin, who is currently fourth in the title race – four points ahead of Di Giannantonio – ahead of the event that takes place at the circuit that suits his riding style the most. The 18-year-old Spanish rider escaped uninjured a road accident while cycling last Thursday, but he will nevertheless undergo some medical checks prior to the racing weekend despite all exams he has done so far have being negative.
On-track action for the Aragon GP will get underway at 9:00 local time (GMT +2) with the first free practice session.
JORGE MARTIN #88
“Aragón is my favourite track! We feel strong, charged up and ready to go. Even last year with my previous bike I was able to stay with the leaders, so I think now with the Honda we’ll be even further ahead. If it stayed dry at Misano we could have had a great result, so we’re even more motivated to try and win in Spain. There’s not much to say about last week’s accident, but I’ve been lucky because it was quite a big one and I got away fine.”
FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO #21
“Last year we did a great race: we stayed with the front runners and finished just outside the podium. The idea would be to do something similar to 2016, with an eye to the standings hoping to make up some ground to the top-3. I love the Aragón track, it has many elevation changes and a good layout, so I hope things will be good for us.”
