Bastianini Seizes Front Row Start At Spielberg. Third Row For Di Giannantonio

Today’s Qualifying for the Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring saw a very positive result for the Gresini Racing Team Moto3: Enea Bastianini set the third fastest time, which will allow him to start tomorrow from the front row on the grid, while his teammate Fabio Di Giannantonio will line up his Honda NSF250RW machine on the third row with the ninth fastest time.

Clocking 1’36”600, Bastianini snatched a front row start for the third consecutive time after the two pole positions conquered at Assen and Sachsenring: the ideal time of the 18-year-old rider from Rimini, made by his best partial times achieved in the 4 sectors of the track, indicates an excellent 1’36”121, which would allow him to start in front of everyone. This bodes well for tomorrow’s race, where Enea probably will have to battle with Mir Binder and Quartararo’s KTMs.

After some issues yesterday afternoon, also the other Gresini Racing Team Moto3 rider, rookie Fabio Di Giannantonio, enjoyed a good Qualifying today: the 17-year-old from Rome, already fast this morning in the third and final free practice session, set a good 1’36”950 which will allow him to start from the ninth position, a performance that equals his best qualifying of the season, got last June at Assen.

ENEA BASTIANINI (3rd – 1’36”600)
“I’m happy because we managed to do a good qualifying, even though we had not been so fast in this morning’s last free practice session. We found a good setting for the bike and I had a lot of fun riding, so that my ideal time would allow me to start on pole. The third position is good anyway: it will be important to make a good start tomorrow in order to stay with Binder, Mir and Quartararo, who appear the fastest riders at the moment and probably the men to beat in the race. It won’t be easy, but we are confident!”.

FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO (9th – 1’36”950)
“I’m pretty happy: already this morning we did a good job in the last free practice session, improving our lap times by 1”5 compared to yesterday. Then, in Qualifying, we gave our maximum as always: in the early stages I was able to set a good time, then in the end I put the M tyres as all the other riders to find the limit. In the last laps I found myself behind Binder, but a contact with another rider didn’t allow me to take advantage of this reference. Too bad, but it’s part of the game. In my last attempt I still set a good lap time and all in all the ninth position equals my best Qualifying performance of the season, so I can be satisfied”.

FAUSTO GRESINI
“The overall result is undoubtedly positive, although this track is definitely a bit most difficult for us. Enea was very fast and also Di Giannantonio was not bad at all, with a ninth place with a lap time very close to the fastest. The team did a wonderful job, so now we just need to stay focused and wait to see how it goes in the race: we have another chance to do very well”.
