A GOOD FRIDAY FOR TEAM DEL CONCA GRESINI AT MUGELLO

The opening day of action for Team Del Conca Gresini Moto3 at Mugello draws to a close with a positive vibe inside the garage, after both riders of the Italian squad were among the protagonists in today’s two #ItalianGP free practice sessions held around the spectacular corners of the Tuscan track. Jorge Martin and Fabio Di Giannantonio have focused mainly on longer runs to better prepare for the races, without missing a chance for a quick-lap time: Martin was, in fact, the fastest rider of the day with a 1’57.104secs lap-time, with the Italian team mate less than eight tenths of a second away.

Fabio Di Giannantonio is obviously looking forward to a strong performance at his home track, after finishing twice second in the last two editions of the Italian Grand Prix: the rider #21 worked turned his attention on trying to find the right feeling with the front-end of his Honda NSF250RW – while displaying a good pace already.

Jorge Martin topped both sessions, and positively impressed with his speed, as he managed to set consistently quick lap-times without the aid of any slipstream – a crucial aspect here at Mugello.

1st – JORGE MARTIN #88

We started pushing right from the get-go, as it was important to understand the level of grip of the track because last year we struggled with some dirt on the track. We were able to be quick already in the morning session using the soft compound at the front, which is usually not my preferred choice, so we immediately switched to a different one in order to avoid any risk. With the medium tyre we completed 7-8 laps with a very interesting pace. In the afternoon we improved the bike behaviour within the corners, as in previous races it was quite unstable, but we had to sacrifice something in terms of rear grip. We’re competitive with used tyres, while with new ones we managed to lap faster than last year’s best lap already, so everything seems to be going the right way.”
9th – FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO #21

We were eighth both in FP1 and FP2 with times that were not too far from the top, so I can say it’s a very encouraging Friday. I think we’ve been working well: we are lapping on our own, so I reckon our pace is quite good already. I don’t feel 100% comfortable with the bike, I must say. I still lack a bit of feeling on the front-end of the bike, so we’ll need to work hard tomorrow if we want to be fully ready for the race. There’ll be no excuse this time out – we are at the best track in the world and we want to do an excellent job.”
