POSITIVE FEELINGS FOR MARTIN AND DIGGIA AFTER DAY ONE AT ARAGON

The first day of free practice at MotorLand Aragón has come to a close, with Team Del Conca Gresini Moto3 ending on a positive note what has been a difficult day – especially weather-wise.

Jorge Martin had to test his fitness condition following last week’s accident while training with his push bike in Andorra and the still ongoing recovery from the injury sustained at the Sachsenring. The results were positive: the Spaniard had very little pain, except from some backache, and his lap-times were competitive. Martin only completed 17 laps today as he set the fifth fastest lap-time of time in 1’59.429secs, only three tenths away from the top of the timesheets.

It was a good day also for Fabio Di Giannantonio, who is looking forward to bettering his so-far best result at Aragón – a fourth place in 2016 – after returning to podium ways in front of his home crowd at Misano. The front-end of his Honda NSF250RW is still causing him some issues, but there will still be the whole Saturday to improve on that department and be ready for the race.

On-track action will resume tomorrow at 9:00 local time (GMT +2) for the FP3, with qualifying set to get underway as usual at 12:35.

5th – JORGE MARTIN #88

“As it often happens, I was able to find a good feeling with the bike straight from the get go, so I’m happy. I tried the softer compound but I didn’t like it much and I ran wide when I was on my way to set the fastest lap-time of the day. I was quick even when I rode on my own and I think we’re ready for the race. I feel good, although my back is still sore after last week’s crash. In any case, I don’t think it’ll be a problem for the race.”

13th – FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO #21

“Things went quite good this morning, although there is still work to be done. The front-end of the bike is the area where we need to improve the most as I still struggle under braking. There’s not much rear grip, but I think it’s more due to the track conditions than else. The afternoon session was kind of a waste of time, because the track conditions were good, but not good enough to be lapping in the 1’57. I hope the weather will be better tomorrow so that we can push a bit more.”
