Di Giannantonio Grabs Stunning Third Place Under The Rain At Brno. Bastianini Fourth

Fabio Di Giannantonio took a sensational third place finish in a very wet Czech Grand Prix today at Brno. The great day of the Gresini Racing Team Moto3, at its sixth consecutive podium finish, was also completed by the fourth position of Enea Bastianini.

Starting from the second row, Di Giannantonio enjoyed a flawless race: fifth after some laps, the 17-year-old rookie from Rome then climbed to third place following the crash of Binder and Pawi and in the final stages he also tried to catch Jorge Martin for the second position. Thanks to his third podium finish of the season after those achieved at Mugello and at Assen, “Diggia” has now 82 points in the standings, only seven behind Nicolò Bulega, his main rival for the “Rookie of the year” trophy.

Enea Bastianini instead claimed the fourth place thanks to a really strong recovery in the second part of the race: down in twelfth position after nine laps, the 18-year-old rider from Rimini recovered very well in the final stages, reaching the fourth position really close to the podium. A result that allows him to climb to third in the Championship with 94 points.

FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO (3rd)
“I’m very happy for this podium, the third of the season! This morning in the wet Warm Up I felt immediately at ease, so I knew I could have a good race. When the lights went off I had a good start and I tried to stay calm, then actually I found myself alone on the track along with Martin. A situation in which I tried to stay focused as much as possible, because in these conditions it was not easy to maintain a steady pace for several laps. In the end I also tried to catch Martin for the second position: Martin pushed hard in the final part of the last lap so finally I preferred to avoid taking too many risks, finishing third with a nice wheelie on the finish line!”.

ENEA BASTIANINI (4th)
“I’m very happy because today we confirmed that we have taken a big step forward with regard to the wet conditions. At the beginning of the race, with the track less wet, I was not very fast: I struggled to push and on corner entry, when releasing the brakes, the bike was going wide. Later, however, in the last 10 laps, the rain increased and I was able to improve my rhythm recovering many positions until the fourth. I saw Di Giannantonio close in front of me and I believed at the podium, so I pushed hard to try to catch him. But on the final lap I went a bit wide at Turn 3, Martin and Fabio took a little advantage and I have not had a chance to launch an attack. I’m really happy though: now I’m third in the championship, I recovered many points and now we want to bring home so many others!”.

FAUSTO GRESINI
“It was a difficult race, with a lot of water on track, but beautiful. We collected a third and a fourth place which represent a very important team result and therefore we are very happy. In the final stages Fabio might even try to grab the second position, and in the closing laps Enea was recovering quickly, as a further demonstration of their competitiveness. I’m also really happy because the team today obtained the sixth consecutive podium finish”.
