Di Giannantonio fractures right collarbone in Valencia test

Team Del Conca Gresini Moto3 rider Fabio Di Giannantonio had a difficult end to the first test of the year, at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit in Valencia: the 18-year-old racer from Rome suffered a crash today at Turn 4, towards the end of the second and last day of testing. After being taken to the Valencia hospital, he was diagnosed with a fractured right collarbone. After the medical checks, it will be decided whether to return to Italy to undergo the surgery to reduce the fracture.

On the other side of the garage, Jorge Martin instead ended the test in a very positive way: the 19-year-old Spaniard put in a total of 62 laps today, the best in 1’40”181, and he was very pleased with the work done on the bike.

FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO

“Yesterday, in the first day of testing, we made just a few laps because of the strong wind and already this morning the second day of testing had not started in the best way, since I had immediately a slight crash. However, later we continued the test making a good job; in the final stages of the day we were doing some last set-up tests and probably because of cold tyres I made a high side, crashing and braking my right collarbone. It’s a shame, but my morale remains high: now I just need to get back in shape as soon as possible!”.

JORGE MARTIN

“After a first day in which actually we didn’t had the possibility to ride because of the strong wind, this morning we could finally start to work on the bike. I’m happy because I felt comfortable right from the first laps; later I struggled a bit when opening ther throttle, but then I was able to change my riding style and to adapt it better to this bike. I’m starting to understand it more deeply and now I love to ride it! Although actually I can’t do a real comparison with the 2016 Honda, because I didn’t ride it a lot, I really like the new frame! We made a good step forward, but I think there is still room for improvement, especially with regard to the corner exit. I can’t to get back on track for the test scheduled later this month at Jerez, where I believe we can do again a great job!”.
