GERMANY SPRINT: ALEX BACK IN THE POINTS AS DIGGIA SHOWS GOOD SIGNS

With the chequered flag comes fresh confidence, and maybe that was the real goal for the standard bearers of team Gresini Racing MotoGP today at the Sachsenring, for the first of two encounters on German turf.

Alex Marquez bags two important points confidence-wise after four-consecutive “zeros” between Le Mans and Mugello. The Spanish rider played it safer at the beginning trying to avoid any trouble in the first three corners, then he did well in getting up to speed and recovering a few positions.

Fabio Di Giannantonio was once again starting too far back compared to what he showed on the track both on Friday and today, but he was fast in the sprint race as he crossed the line in 12th place after battling with Espargaró and Marc Marquez down to the wire.

8th – ALEX MARQUEZ #73

“It was quite a stressful day especially due to the rain. We had a decent qualifying session: the second row would have been perfect, but eighth place wasn’t so bad if we consider the yellow flags. We had a few modifications in mind which we chose to avoid for today, but in hindsight I think they would have worked. That’s why we have a lot of work to do tomorrow in the warm up in order to finish in the full-race top five.”

12th – FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO #49

“It was an excellent race: we started off well and we managed to overtake and be aggressive on a track where passing isn’t an easy thing to do. Our pace was also good, as we kept the one set by the second group. We started the race from so far back, but we had a good encounter and likely my best performance. With double the number of laps tomorrow we could have a bit more of an opportunity to make a difference.”
