GREAT PACE FOR ARENAS AND GONZALEZ ON DAY ONE AT SILVERSTONE
The Moto2 World Championship action resumed after a three-week break: Albert Arenas finished the opening day in eleventh place as the Spaniard made the most of the afternoon session to work on the long run – with his feeling being positive. At the moment, he is in the group of riders to be seeded directly to Q2, ready to confirm the same type of performance tomorrow morning.
Manuel Gonzalez also turned his attention on the longer distance as he got up to speed immediately in the opening free practice session, which he finished in third place with a 2’04.381secs lap-time. He was nineteenth quickest in the afternoon’s practice due to a few many yellow flag situations and because of ending up on the green stripe in his quicker lap attempts, but the race pace of the #18 was fast and he will show it in Practice 2 tomorrow morning, where he will give his all to secure a direct seed to Q2.
11th – ALBERT ARENAS #75 (2’04.333s)
“Today was an important day, as we wanted to get up to speed and find back a good feeling. We worked a lot to do so and there are surely some positive sides to take into account. We were able to complete a good long run: unfortunately an issue cost us the final seven minutes of Practice1, which prevented us to do the time attack and that’s a shame, but we completed the important work we had planned and we’ll make the most of tomorrow’s Practice2 to set a good lap time and then do a good qualifying session. We have clear ideas on what to work on to further improve the feeling.”
19th – MANUEL GONZALEZ #18 (2’04.875s)
“It was a very important first day as I felt quick straight away. This track favours my riding style and also our setting, and this this allowed us to be quick also on the race pace. We still need to work on the time attack ahead of tomorrow’s qualifying, as it’ll be important to start near the front in order to be more comfortable in the race. I’m happy with this opening day but our focus is already on tomorrow.”
