Gresini Racing Team Moto3 Riders Enjoy Positive Opening Day At Silverstone

The first day of practice of the British Grand Prix, twelfth round of the 2016 Moto3 campaign, ended positively for both Gresini Racing Team Moto3 riders: Fabio Di Giannantonio and Enea Bastianini set the third and the fifth fastest time, respectively, at the end of thoday’s first two Free Practice sessions at Silverstone.

After a good start in the morning, both riders improved considerably in the afternoon session, with Di Giannantonio who clocked a time of 2’15”344, while Bastianini was close behind in 2’15”400. Both the 17-year-old rookie from Rome and the 18-year-old rider from Rimini will work tomorrow to progress especially with regard to the cornering speed, ahead of a qualifying session that promises to be hard fought.

FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO (3rd – 2’15”344)
“I’m very happy with this first day! For the first time we are so close to the top after the first two free practice sessions and above all I was able to make several laps alone, improving without having a reference in front of me. We have been able to make good steps forward during the day, without making a lot of changes in the bike set-up, and we will try to make further improvements tomorrow: we have to work on the cornering sped, because at the moment we still cannot make the bike turn as we would like. Having said that, I still enjoyed riding my bike also because I like the track a lot, although there are some bumps. The goal for tomorrow’s Qualifying is the top ten: it would not be a bad starting point to try to make a good race on Sunday!”.

ENEA BASTIANINI (5th – 2’15”400)
“I’m quite happy: this morning I struggled a bit to be fast and the fastest riders were a bit far, so we tried to quickly identify the main problems on the bike, improving on several areas in the afternoon. In the second session in fact I had more fun riding my bike and finally I was able to be fast. I’m still struggling in the first sector of the track, where there are many corners where cornering speed is crucial and fast changes of direction. We just need to look for more stability in order to be more competitive. In addition, the wind bothers me a lot, so I will also work on my riding style to avoid this problem. However, in the afternoon we approached the fastest and in the final stages I was able to complete just one single lap with new tyres, so we know we could get something more today. Tomorrow the Qualifying won’t be easy, but we can be competitive if we work well in the right areas”.

FAUSTO GRESINI
“Both our riders finished the first day of practice close to the top, so we can be satisfied. In the second session we put the new tyre only in the last minutes and in fact we couldn’t take full advantage of it, so we know we could have done something more. Anyway we are happy, what matters is to fully exploit our potential in tomorrow’s Qualifying. It was a good start: we still lack something compared to the fastest, but not much; we will keep working on the bike set-up ahead of tomorrow”.
