JOY BEFORE DISAPPOINTMENT AT MUGELLO: FRONT ROW AND CRASH IN SPRINT RACE FOR MARQUEZ

Today’s outcome at Mugello was a hard pill to swallow for Team Gresini MotoGP and especially for Alex Marquez, who after brilliantly securing third place on the grid in qualifying he ended up crashing out of the sprint race due to a coming together with Brad Binder moments after the start. His ‘tough luck’ does not end here, because the Spaniard will have to comply with the penalty imposed by race direction at Le Mans due to a “collision” with the South African rider.

No glory either for Fabio Di Gianantonio, whose race performance and result were hampered by sub-par qualifying. His still-good race pace was not enough for the Italian to recover positions and finish in the points. With a 14th place under his belt, he is looking forward to making amends tomorrow.

DNF ALEX MARQUEZ #73

“The day was without a doubt a positive one. We’re back to a high level in qualifying and honestly speaking the pace was really good. Too bad for the race: first Miller on the racing line and then the hit by Binder… once again we had very little luck, but we’re not throwing the towel in and we’ll be on attack mode tomorrow, despite the fact that we’ll have to do it from row two.”

14th – FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO #49

“Let’s start from qualifying: unfortunately, we didn’t have the right feeling with the front-end and I struggled a lot. During the race, many positive things happened: we had a great start and recovered five positions. We’re still missing something pace-wise, but we can work on two-three tenths of a second that would mean a big step forward.”
