The inevitable changes to the MotoGP calendar mean that riders and teams will have another round in Portugal, in the Algarve region, for a second GP at the circuit of the same name. In this case, everyone is optimistic. The nature of this spectacular track and the way it puts the technical and human aspects to the test have always made the Portuguese asphalt at the top of the rider and team popularity lists.
For Aleix, who had an outstanding weekend in Portimão in April, the goal of a good final rider placement remains priority number one. Currently eighth in the overall standings, the Spanish rider’s efforts have been rewarded in developing an RS-GP that has achieved an extremely high level of competitiveness. He already has one podium under his belt this season and he still has a shot, albeit with great effort, at moving up a few more positions in the overall standings.
Maverick Viñales will be tackling the Portuguese race comforted by the good performance he demonstrated on his comeback ride in Misano where he finished right behind his teammate after starting from the nineteenth spot on the grid and where he was among the fastest in the race. His growing feeling with the Italian bike makes him optimistic for a 2021 finale that will give him the right momentum to prepare for a fundamental 2022 season.
