TENTH POLE FOR MARTIN AS DIGGIA QUALIFIES WELL AT COTA

Jorge Martin takes his first pole position of the season today at Circuit of The Americas, courtesy of the 2’18.629secs lap-time set during the last attempt of a session that was heavily affected by weather conditions, which kept improving as the clock kept ticking.

The Spanish rider of Team Del Conca Gresini Moto3 did a great job in managing the situation together with the team and to play well with the minutes remaining, and tomorrow will head the Moto3 grid for the tenth time in his career. This is a kind of record for Martin, who equals the late-great Daijiro Kato for the number of poles as Gresini rider (10), while getting close to Gibernau who has only one more.

It was an excellent qualifying performance for Fabio Di Giannantonio, who did well in stay in the top positions for the whole weekend so far – both in dry and wet conditions. The Italian, who is now fourth in the championship standings, will launch himself from row two as he’ll try to be one of the protagonists of the race – which will get underway at 11am local time (GMT -5).

1st – JORGE MARTIN #88

“This morning we focused on the race pace, while in the afternoon things were complicated. Between rain and track conditions it was important to get a good starting position but it wasn’t easy to get one. We are back on pole position after a while and it feels great.”

5th – FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO #21

“This morning we were really strong on the dry, while during qualifying the mixed conditions made it more difficult. We needed a good grid position, maybe even pole, but it wasn’t possible. At the end of the day, however, I can say I am really satisfied and tomorrow we are ready for any condition, hailstorm included!”
