TOP-3 FOR BOTH TEAM DEL CONCA GRESINI ON FRIDAY AT JEREZ

Team Del Conca Gresini Moto3 has enjoyed a good start to the Grand Prix of Spain by placing both of its riders in the top-3 after day one, as Jorge Martin and Fabio Di Giannantonio were second and third, respectively, in the combined times of today’s first two Moto3 free practice sessions at Jerez de la Frontera.

The Italian rider #21 was the quickest rider this morning with a lap-time of 1’47.159secs. However, ‘Diggia’ was unfortunately unable to improve his performance during the afternoon session – he was only 17 thousandths of a second in FP2 – but that was enough for him to clinch third place at the end of the day. With consistent times both on medium and hard tyres, Di Giannantonio is now ready for a strong Saturday of qualifying.

It was a bit more of a complicated day – despite his second position overall – for Jorge Martin. A gearing problem in the morning and a possible faulty tyre in the afternoon did not allow him to be as effective as he had hoped.

Moto3 for the #SpanishGP action will continue tomorrow with free practice 3 at 9am local time (GMT +2), which will be followed by qualifying at 12:35.

2nd – JORGE MARTIN #88

“It was a difficult day, as I was unable to find the perfect set-up after experiencing a problem with the gearbox, which kind of slowed our work pace down. I believe the track has changed a lot compared to winter testing – and obviously temperatures are quite different – but I hope it will improve and get more grippy with some more rubber down. I would say that the feeling with the medium compound wasn’t good at all, but I believe that we might have bumped into a faulty tyre today because the performance dropped down by more than a second in comparison with the other set. We will try again tomorrow with the medium option – as it’s usually the right choice here at Jerez – while doing some more laps with the hard one.”

3rd – FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO #21

“Today went really well. We’ve always been fast and up front. We did the same lap-times with both hard and medium tyres and this is important, because normally it’s the medium one that helps you setting the time at this track. It’s only Friday, but I believe our race pace is in line with what we’ll see on Sunday, so I hope we’ll continue this way. It would be important to find a front row start tomorrow, which would help us fighting for a good result at this first European round of the season.”
