SILVERSTONE NEW ASPHALT WELCOMES TEAM DEL CONCA GRESINI

It was not an easy day for Team Del Conca Gresini Moto3 in England as Fabio Di Giannantonio and Jorge Martin got to grips with the new layer of asphalt of Silverstone.

Too many bumps – despite a slightly higher grip – have translated into a difficult day at the office for the two standard bearers of Gresini Racing in the category. Jorge Martin, especially, experience more pain and discomfort than expected in his recently-operated wrist. The Spaniard ended day one as tenth-fastest, more than a second away from the top of the timesheets.

Fabio Di Giannantonio was three tenths faster than his team mate, and the Italian rider was happy with the feeling with his bike. ‘Diggia’ is ready to fight for a good qualifying – if weather conditions will allow that. Moto3 action will resume at 9am local time (GMT +2) tomorrow morning.

7th– FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO #21

I was expecting a bit more from the new asphalt: it’s true there’s a bit more grip but there are a lot of bumps, a bit like last year. Having said that, we did a great job. We did lap well on our own as well as in the pack; I love this track and I have a great feeling with the bike. The base is good, and if more stable weather we could have done a bit better.”

10th– JORGE MARTIN #88

“It has been quite a difficult weekend as I struggled with the wrist injury almost a bit more than in Austria. Things improved a bit in the afternoon, we are working well and improving in every outing. I hope the wind will stop blowing because it wasn’t of great help today. The new asphalt is very bumpy and that doesn’t help my wrist condition, but we’ll endure the pain.”
