DIGGIA’S #GERMANGP COMEBACK ENDS WITH 11TH PLACE FINISH
Fabio Di Giannantonio completes the ninth Grand Prix of the Moto3 World Championship season with mixed feelings, after finishing today’s 27-lap race at the Sachsenring in 11thplace. Despite the result in itself, the Italian leaves Germany in a more positive mood after improving his performance on race day.
Fabio was the only standard bearer of the team on track today due to the injury side-lining Jorge Martin; starting from 25th place on the grid, the 19-year old put together a laudable comeback, which unfortunately also highlights the importance of good qualifying on Saturday.
Nevertheless, Di Giannantonio was able to overtake 13 riders to take eleventh at the chequered flag and move back in fifth place in the standings, four points away from his team mate.
The MotoGP circus will not enjoy a month break and so will the riders of Team Del Conca Gresini Moto3, who hope to have Martin back at Brno already. More information regarding his recovery will be available after tomorrow’s surgery to the Spaniard’s right ankle.
11th – FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO #21
“Overall I must say that it was a positive weekend, but only if we separate performance and result. My result was OK: I made up 13 places to finish 11th and we moved up one place in the standings, which it’s not too bad. Performance-wise, I’m really happy because we showed a great race pace, which we didn’t have over the rest of the weekend. We tried something different for the race and I liked it a lot, and I was only a tenth away from the quickest lap of the race. All in all, I would rate myself 6 out of 10 here in Germany.”
