A STEP FORWARD FOR TEAM DEL CONCA GRESINI MOTO3 AT JEREZ

Team Del Conca Gresini Moto3’s Jorge Martin and Fabio Di Giannantonio have completed – with a smile on their faces – the penultimate pre-season test of 2017 at Circuito de Jerez in southern Spain. Both riders made the most of perfect weather conditions to lap as much as possible around the fast-flowing 4.423 Km Andalusian circuit, which hosts the maiden European Grand Prix of the year.

Quick from the early moments of the test, Martin and his crew turned their attention to the front of his NSF250RW machine, with the aim of improving the bike’s behaviour under braking. After completing 126 laps, the 19-year-old from Madrid ended up third-fastest courtesy of a 1’46.415s lap-time.

Back from a collarbone injury sustained a month ago at Valencia, Fabio Di Giannantonio was one of the most active riders on track as he worked on getting back the feeling with his Honda machine #21. With some more confidence on his side, the young Italian rider is now looking forward to getting back on track.

The Del Conca Gresini Moto3 Team will now head to Qatar for a further chance to fine-tune their package before the opening event of the season.

JORGE MARTIN
“The first day was a really good one, with some really interesting lap-times. On the second day we decided to focus more on the long run and I have to admit it was the right choice, as the feeling I got was excellent. I feel very comfortable on board my Honda and I think we have what it takes to battle at the sharp end of the field. Today we decided to end our test a bit earlier and leave the circuit as our feeling was already the best one on this circuit”.

FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO

We did only a few laps on day 1 because I thought my fitness condition was going to be better than what it turned out to be. I had to use my left arm a lot more when lifting the bike up, in order to make up for the lack of strength in my right arm; it was exhausting, especially in the final part of the day. From the second day onwards things got better and, although we were not the quickest on track, I felt much more comfortable on the bike. This is a great boost of confidence heading into the next test in Qatar.”
