ASSEN FRIDAY: MARTIN SECOND DESPITE CRASH WITH DIGGIA IN TOP-TEN

It was a free practice day with some tension in the air for Team Del Conca Gresini Moto3, who had to wait for scan results after Jorge Martin was transported to the Assen’s medical centre following a crash at turn four.

Luckily, the Spaniard escaped the tumble uninjured, meaning he will be back on track tomorrow morning for FP3 with the goal to improve the already-encouraging second place of today which was the result of his morning’s 1’42.771secs lap-time.

Further down the order (10th) but not too far from the lead time-wise (+0.486secs from the top), Fabio Di Giannantonio had a steady but consistent progression throughout the day, in which he mainly focused on his pace – and race-tyre selection.

2nd– JORGE MARTIN #88

“It has been a positive day: I was able to find a good feeling with the bike straight away, something which never happened in Montmeló. This afternoon I put fresh tyres on during the final minutes to improve my time a bit; unfortunately, I opened the throttle a bit too early and ended up with a highside. My foot hurts a bit but nothing to worry about, so tomorrow we will keep working in this direction.”

10th– FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO #21

“This morning things went well: we started with hard tyres and we kept them throughout the session, and I ended up being among the fastest with equal conditions. In the afternoon we tried the softer compound, but the feeling was not the same. In the morning I was more worried about the front-end of the bike, while in FP2 we mainly focused on bike turning. We need to stay positive ahead of tomorrow because we’re in the right direction.”
