Gresini Racing Team Moto3 duo continues the quest Down Under

The spectacular scenery of Phillip Island hosts this weekend the 16th round of the 2016 Moto3 World Championship, the Australian Grand Prix. The Gresini Racing Team Moto3 heads Down Under galvanized by Enea Bastianini’s stunning victory in Japan and by the excellent fifth place collected by Fabio Di Giannantonio, tenth consecutive Top Ten finish for the 18-year-old rookie from Rome.

Always on the podium in the last three races, on a very technical and fast track Bastianini will try to fight again at the top: thanks to the win at Motegi, the 18-year-old rider from Rimini has also regained the second position in the Championship, and now he will try to defend his advantage of 21 points on Spaniard Jorge Navarro.

After discovering for the first time the Twin Ring Motegi, Di Giannantonio will have to deal once again with an unknown track. The target for “Diggia” is to hit another good placement to further close the gap in the standings on his rivals for the Rookie of the Year Trophy, Nicolò Bulega and Spaniard Joan Mir.

ENEA BASTIANINI

“In Japan we finally got a win after just missing it in the last few races, so we move to Australia more relaxed and ready to fight again! I like a lot the Phillip Island circuit, but often there is a lot of wind, which usually is a condition that annoys me. I hope therefore that we will meet good weather conditions, then for the rest will work as always, trying to be fast right from the first free practice. The goal is at least the podium, but of course if there is a chance we will try to stay at the top like it happened in Motegi!”.

FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO

“I can’t wait to get to Phillip Island: everybody told me great things about this beautiful track with a stunning view of the sea… Unfortunately so far I could only visit it virtually, with the PlayStation, so I’m curious to finally put the wheels on it. Apparently it’s a very fast and technical track, so I think that I will like it a lot! In Motegi I collected valuable points for the Championship: with still three races to go the fight for the ‘Rookie of the Year’ trophy is definitely open, so we want to continue this positive trend!”.

FAUSTO GRESINI

“The long flyaway triple-header could not start better for us: with Bastianini we finally got a great win, while Di Giannantonio at his first experience in Japan rode a good race, with another great comeback and a strong fifth place. Therefore we arrive at Phillip Island confident to be able to fight again for the top positions. We remain focused, because we still have two targets to hit, definitely within our reach: to defend the second place in the Championship with Enea and try to win the Rookie of the Year trophy with Fabio”.
