POSITIVE FRIDAY FOR FERRARI AT LE MANS
Steady, but solid. This could be a brief summary of Matteo Ferrari’s opening day at Le Mans, as the current MotoE standings leader gets ready for the first of two crucial days for his title defence hopes. The reigning world cup champion did not take any risk in the morning in light of the mixed track conditions, despite finishing FP1 in third place. In the afternoon, with only one set of fresh tyres, the Italian managed to stay in the top-five and will be the fifth last to take to the track for the E-Pole lap tomorrow morning. Among the other title contenders, only Casadei is ahead of him.
A bit more difficult day for Alessandro Zaccone, who is more than two second in arrears from today’s best lap set by Di Meglio. The Italian will need to step up already tomorrow morning from 11:45 as he will be among the first ones to attack pole position.
The first of two crucial races will get underway tomorrow at 16:20 local time (GMT +2) with weather conditions expected to improve dramatically already from the morning.
5th – MATTEO FERRARI #11 (1’44.520)
“Today’s feeling was good, even in mixed conditions. We were competitive despite avoiding any sort of risk. In the afternoon, with dry track, we lapped with only one new set of tyres, while the riders ahead of us all used two. We tried different levels of engine braking, but the base we have is really strong so we won’t make any radical change because tomorrow morning it will already be time for E-Pole. We’ll wait and see what happens.”
15th – ALESSANDRO ZACCONE #61 (1’46.406)
“A difficult day. The weather made things a lot harder and especially for me, since it was my first time at this track – so it wasn’t easy. Let’s not count out the fact that we have very few laps available. We need to improve many things if we want to make a step forward tomorrow. I like the track, but it’s not very easy to be quick in only ten laps. We’ll try again tomorrow!”
