DIGGIA ON GOOD PACE AD MARTIN IMPROVES AT RED BULL RING

The 11thGrand Prix of the 2018 Moto3 World Championship has officially begun around the corners of the Spielberg circuit, with Fabio Di Giannantonioand Jorge Martin(Team Del Conca Gresini Moto3) both on track in Friday’s free practice sessions.

Martin’s presence on track was already a very good piece of news per se, given the fact that the #88 managed to pass the medical controls after undergoing wrist surgery six days ago. The Spaniard completed 13 laps overall between FP1 and FP2, which gave him some useful feedback ahead of the second day of action – in which the Spaniard will hope to be more competitive in order to qualify for Sunday’s race.

It was a positive day for Diggia, too, with the Italian only 16thbut very confident of his chances to do well aboard his Honda machine, despite this track being more favourable to the KTMs. Moto3 action will resume tomorrow morning at 9:00, and hopefully the chances of raining will not become reality like it happened this afternoon.

16th– FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO #21

“We are in much better position than how it looks on the timesheets; I’m happy with my performance in the twisty section (t3 and t4). We still need to improve a little bit under braking but compared to the morning session we did make some good steps forward, especially on our race pace. It will be important to go for our quick-lap attempt without traffic on track, in order to make the most of fresh tyres. This is KTM’s track, but with a perfect setting and a little bit more effort I think we can take the fight to them.”

26th– JORGE MARTIN #88

“We’re quite happy with our first taste of racing after surgery: to be here riding is already a success, but if we consider that we are only one second away from the front runners… We need to make some changes to the bike as I’m not fully comfortable, but there’s room for improvement. I will have to ride through the pain, but I’m not too far behind. I feel pain in the area of the ulna and obviously in my radius bone due to the surgery – and especially in left-handed corners.”
