Double target for Gresini Racing Team Moto3 in Valencia 2016 season finale

The Gresini Racing Team Moto3 is preparing for the traditional closing event of the season, this weekend at the Ricardo Tormo circuit in Valencia, with the aim to hit a double target. Enea Bastianini can secure second place in the Championship, while Fabio Di Giannantonio is in full fight to clinch the “Rookie of the Year” trophy.

After being forced to miss the Malaysian Grand Prix after the incident in the early stages of the Australian Grand Prix, Bastianini is ready to get back on track to defend second place in the Championship: the 18-year-old rider from Rimini, who can count on a 19-point advantage on Francesco Bagnaia, could graduate runner-up in the Championship with a ninth place finish. The first commitment for Enea is set for Thursday, November 10 at the circuit medical center, where he will be undergo the necessary medical check in order to receive the green light to participate in the Grand Prix.

After two unlucky races in Australia and Malaysia, Di Giannantonio is ready to give his best on a track that exactly one year ago saw him make his debut aboard the Gresini Racing Team Moto3 Honda machine: in order to be the best rookie of the season, the 18-year-old rider from Rome must recover six points on Nicolò Bulega and 1 on Spaniard Joan Mir.

“This year we approach the Valencia Grand Prix in a particular situation: I’m fresh from the Phillip Island bad accident, so first of all we need to receive the green light by doctors on Thursday. Anyway I feel good, my physical condition is improving day by day and I’m convinced that I will arrive in Valencia ready to race and battle! I expect a hard fight to clinch the second place in the Championship, although the 19-point lead in the standings is undoubtedly a good starting point”.

“Obviously I have good memories of Valencia, because it’s here that exactly one year ago I made my debut in the World Championship. After two unlucky races we are very determined to fight back and I’m convinced that we can have a good race. It will be crucial to start the weekend in a good way and finally make a good Qualifying on Saturday. We are three riders fighting for the Rookie of the Year trophy and I’m ready to battle!”.

“After the fantastic win at Motegi, in Japan, the flyaway triple-header proved to be not so lucky for us: nonetheless we head to Valencia with a good chance to close the season in second place with Enea. An important achievement that would represent an improvement of the placemente obtained in 2015, a further proof of our constant growth. Di Giannantonio enjoyed a great season and here in Valencia he will play his cards to try to win the ‘Rookie of the Year’ trophy: considering that he started collecting points from the Italian Grand Prix at Mugello, we can be very satisfied. In Australia and Malaysia Fabio has been a little unlucky, but he proved to be able to fight at the top, so we are confident ahead of this final, important event”.
